The 3 Baudets were created in the late 1940s by Jacques Canetti, to fill the absence of Parisian cinemas where young artists, mostly unknown, could easily perform in front of an audience. It is in this room that more than a hundred artists including Jacques Brel and Serges Gainsbourg will start their prodigious stage career
This cultural establishment of the city of Paris, is located at 64, boulevard de Clichy (18th arrondissement), at the foot of the hill Montmartre in the district of Pigalle. The Théâtre des Trois Baudets is located between the second basement and the first floor of an existing building rehabilitated in housing by the architectural firm Béchu in 2002. Since 1925, date of its construction by the architect Charles Lemaresquier , the building's street level buildings have constantly evolved and changed owners. Formerly Theater des Trois Baudets between 1947 and 1967, it was replaced by a striptease club until the early 90s. Using the system of the "box in the box", the theater is part of two floors totaling 250 seats. On the first floor there is a dining room with kitchens and theater management offices. The design of the new façade is based on existing vertical and horizontal frames. Horizontal in relation to the continuity of the bodyguard, vertical compared to the descents of the existing structural columns. The new facade of the theater of 3 Baudets gives a more urban and more didactic face to the district thus allowing to slip between an architecture of the 1930s and contempo-raine.
